Midwest Zoological Society (MZS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and habitat restoration across the Midwest. We partner with local rescue centers, small zoos and researchers to return animals to healthy habitats.

Mission

Rescue and rehabilitate wildlife, support research, and raise public awareness through community programs and partnerships with local zoos and research institutions.

2025–2026 Goals

  • Rescue 120+ animals per year (birds, small mammals and reptiles).
  • Restore 10 hectares of habitat via local partnerships.
  • Hold 4–6 community events annually, targeting 1,000+ attendees total.
  • Train 80–100 volunteers in care and outreach.
  • Establish 2 research collaborations with regional universities or conservation agencies.

  • 70% of rescued animals rehabilitated and released.
  • 500+ youth participants in outdoor education programs.
  • 90% volunteer retention year over year.

Key Activities

Rescue & Temporary Care

Handling an average of 10–15 rescue cases per month with expert veterinary coordination and safe transport networks.

Animal Welfare Programs

Improving care standards at partner facilities and training animal care staff.

Community Events & Exhibitions

Family-friendly days, wildlife photo exhibits, and hands-on workshops.

Research & Partnerships

Collecting field data and funding small-scale studies on at-risk species.

Midwest Conservation Day 2025 — Workshop & Field Trip

Activities include two expert-led workshops on wildlife first aid, a guided field trip for species identification, a wildlife photography exhibition (40 images from the region), and an onsite membership & donation booth.

Fundraising goal: $15,000 to support the "Winter Rescue 2026" program.

Volunteer

Sign up via our internal form to join animal care teams, event support, or outreach. Training sessions run quarterly (max 25 participants per class).

Membership & Donations

Monthly support starts at $20/month. Donations fund rescue operations, supplies and habitat restoration.

Material Donations

We accept food, transport crates, bedding, and care supplies. See donation form for current needs.
